Defence and Security

Personalize your equipment both quickly precisely

The use of 3D technologies in defence and security allows you to accelerate the product development process, personalize features and properties, and avoid the high costs generally incurred by changes to the supply and production chain.

3D printing enables you to:

  • Produce parts on request
  • Quickly design low-volume equipment
  • Produce precise functional prototypes, even when complex

Customer

Aerospace

Mandate

To optimize the design of a complex part and validating the consolidation possibilities.

Goals

Initially the part was designed in a dozen sections formed and welded, which caused delays and problems of repeatability.

  • Consolidate different parts to reduce assembly and certain costs.
  • Reduce costs and the number of operators (machining of different sections, forming for other sections, other supplier for assembly …).
  • Maintain the functionality of the product.
  • Application requiring a high performance material, such as PEKK, with ESD properties.

Results

  • Optimal consolidation: Complex part of 10 sections with one-piece hardware.
  • Reduction of the number of suppliers required to one: Thanks to Solaxis’ expertise and technologies, the entire project was taken care of by our team.
  • Optimized design facilitating assembly, while respecting geometric constraints.
  • Repeatable parts: This pilot project then led to other 3D printing projects.
  • PEKK – Antero 840CN03 met high mechanical properties requirements.

Mandate

Prototypes parts rigorous testing up to final production parts meeting exemplary repeatability

Goals

The conditions of deep space require a multi-mission approach with rigorous parts testing and the construction of a new spacecraft for each mission. This ensures both the integrity of the parts but also poses a challenge for Lockheed Martin, prime contractor for the Orion vehicle: repeatability.

Return on investment

Return on investment

  • Unlike traditional methods (machining, injection, liquid resin casting, etc.), the Solaxis solution avoids expenses associated with programming and investing in complex and expensive tooling to produce small quantities.
  • Flexible delivery also yields the benefits of LEAN Manufacturing, thanks to just-in- time (JIT) sourcing.

Defence and Security | Manufacturing of high-performance protection solutions

“I'm continually impressed with the promptness and engagement that Solaxis o°ers us. Even with my own large in-house printers and printing partners nearby, there are many emergency and priority projects I simply could not complete without Solaxis at our side. Solaxis delivers for us time and time again, without fault, and constantly ahead of the competition. I could not be more satisfied with our relationship!"
