Surrogate Parts by Industrial 3D Printing

Mandate

To produce a large part to validate and configure the 5-axis machining program before the first productions.

Goals

  • Qualification of many suppliers for the machining of a large casting made of an exotic alloy.
  • Validation and configuration of the 5-axis machining program before the first productions.
  • Prequalification of 5-axis machining, without risk of destroying the original castings.

Results

  • Surrogate parts with advanced thermoplastic less expensive than final casting with exotic alloy.
  • Many substitution parts were manufactured and sent to 5-axis machining suppliers for their first programming.
  • Parts then returned to the customer to validate whether the machined parts were compliant.
  • Zero defect guarantee during production.
